Business Intelligence Analyst

Position Summary

The Business Intelligence Analyst will be joining a new comprehensive analytics operation, primarily responsible for turning data into knowledge that will be used to make donor and alumni engagement decisions. The analyst will report to the Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics.

The key focus will be on analyzing data and structuring the data in a way that tells the story to leadership, particularly: past trends, current conditions, and future predictions. The BI Analyst will be able to understand large chunks of data and trends, based on information gathered from numerous sources including CRM systems (Blackbaud), e-mail and social media, where performance, scalability and reliability are critical. This will be accomplished by utilizing agile methodologies and a combination of data modeling, mathematical model building, information engineering, and sampling and accounting principles to ensure models deliver intended return on investment (ROI).

As the BI Analyst, you will be responsible for working closely with the end users to gather business requirements, set priorities, and identify optimal BI strategies. This includes working with business partners and development teams to design, and document dashboards, reports, and models. In this role, the BI Analyst will gain deep knowledge of donor and alumni engagement data to a capacity where insights and trends are discovered.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop a broad, in-depth knowledge of the UConn Foundations processes and system environment.
  • Collaborate within multiple teams to collect and interpret business requirements.
  • Utilize data, analytical skills, and business knowledge to define requirements and design data models to meet user needs.
  • Design and develop new reports and models for scalable BI solutions.
  • Conceptualize, formulate and prototype models and reports.
  • Document and execute implementation plans to deploy BI solutions.
  • Responsible for deliverables on an established timeline and manage customer relationships, as well as, managing project risks, issues, and dependencies.
  • Test data sets to check that the output from the application works as intended, conduct QA and UAT to ensure data is as expected with high quality and accuracy.
  • Analyze data and provide insights about donor segmentation and trends.
  • Continuous improvement of models by reacting to problems quickly, correcting the application as necessary and increasing the application’s effectiveness.
  • Manage day-to-day operations ensuring the consistent delivery of high quality products and services to our end users; data collection, data modification and data analysis.
  • Support urgent and complex issues to ensure timely issue resolution and high-quality customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Sciences, Computer Information Systems, Business, Statistics, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of design and development experience working in the field of Business Intelligence, developing and analyzing models, reports, and dashboards.
