The UConn Foundation is governed by a volunteer board of elected directors drawn from corporations and community organizations, and ex-officio members from the University administration, faculty and student body. The faculty and student directors serve as advocates among their peers for the Foundation and its work on behalf of the University. The Foundation president is the chief executive officer of the Foundation, and day-to-day operations are administered by the vice president of finance and controls and the vice president for development.
The Board’s strong constituency, by design, reflects the set of professional backgrounds, skills and knowledge necessary to achieve its ambitious goals for the Foundation. Its members give selflessly of their time, expertise and financial resources, setting policies for successfully raising, accountably managing and prudently investing private philanthropic funds on behalf of the University. Together, they are helping to realize the vision that the University be recognized among the top public research universities in the nation.
The Fortune 500 list is well represented among the Foundation’s current and recent directors' affiliations: a partial list includes current and retired senior executives from LandAmerica Financial Group, Inc., GE Company, Aetna Inc., Mass Mutual, Northeast Utilities, The Phoenix Companies, Inc., CIGNA Retirement and Investment Services, New England Capital, Fidelity Management Trust, Arrow International, Inc., Salomon Smith Barney, Legg Mason, United Illuminating, the American Red Cross, Alliance Capital Management Corporation, Landmark Partners, Inc., and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Also, IBM, ING, Brown Rudnick Berlack Israels LLP, Rudy, Exelrod, & Zieff, LLP, Konover and Associates, Gaffney, Bennett and Associates, Ewing Capital, Inc., Shenkman Capital Management, Inc., Paul Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison, Wildwood Capital Partners, Soros Fund Management, LLC, Pfizer, Inc. and the Connecticut Pharmacies Association.
