On September 25–26, 2009, the UConn Foundation launched Our University. Our Moment. The Campaign for UConn. Starting on Friday with simultaneous ice cream socials in Storrs and in Farmington, and concluding with an on-field presentation to our most-generous donors, the kickoff was designed to get the entire UConn community excited for—and committed to—the campaign.
A high-energy campaign kickoff event was held immediately preceding the UConn football team's 52-10 victory over the University of Rhode Island at Rentschler Field. Among the presenters were Campaign Chairman Denis McCarthy ’64, ‘65, "Charles and Augustus Storrs," and David Ushery '89, longtime Connecticut reporter and co-anchor of "News 4 New York" on WNBC. To close out the event, UConn President Mike Hogan rallied the crowd and called in the UConn Marching Band and the UConn Spirit Squad for a rousing rendition of the fight song. During the game and at halftime, the crowd viewed the premiere of the University's campaign video and honored Carole and Ray Neag '56, '01H.
