Gerald '82 and Katrina DesRoches have established a $50,000 endowment to support the Department of Accounting within the School of Business, to be matched by his employer.
Mr. DesRoches, managing director of Wealth & Tax Advisory Services, credits his education at UConn for putting him on the path toward professional success. He notes that several professors, including Mohamed Hussein, Ph.D., interim dean of the School of Business and head of the Department of Accounting, Lawrence Grambling, Ph.D., assistant professor, and Richard Kochanek, Ph.D., professor emeritus, had a "positive impact" on his interest in business, accounting and tax.
"I loved UConn when I was there. And now there's been so much done there for the campus, the School of Business, the sports teams," says Mr. DesRoches. "I just feel really good about the business school, the campus and the direction the University is taking."
The Jerry and Katrina DesRoches Accounting Enhancement Fund will support program enhancements, undergraduate and graduate scholarships, and faculty initiatives related to their academic interests.
The DesRoches hope the fund will help the school continue in its mission to attract better students and improve programs.
" I 've been support ive of the School of Business for a long time," says Mr. DesRoches. "I felt good about giving an endowment. Hopefully, it will help."
The DesRoches fund will make a difference for students, faculty and programs, says Hussein.
"It's a fantastic donation. It will help students significantly," says Hussein, who is especially pleased that the school is receiving support from his former pupil. "What makes this gift special for me is that Jerry was one of my students. And he was one of the best."
