Tony ’80 and Anne ’81 Barone are directing their $75,000 gift toward the Leadership Cabinet at the School of Business.
Mrs. Barone earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the School of Business. Mr. Barone was a student-athlete on the football team while he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The couple is giving back in appreciation for their experiences at UConn and also to promote the future growth of the School of Business.
“Anne and I met while we were undergraduates at UConn. This gift is our way of recognizing the impact that UConn has had on our personal and professional lives,” says Mr. Barone. “We have been blessed with three great children and have enjoyed success in our respective fields of mortgage banking and certified public accounting.”
Mrs. Barone adds, “We are excited for the future of the University and specifically for the School of Business as Dean Christopher Earley leads UConn into the upper echelon of business programs.”
Unrestricted gifts to the Leadership Cabinet are used at the dean’s discretion to achieve top priorities and advance the school’s standing. Earley explains that the cabinet has a strategic role in shaping the school’s future.
“The Leadership Cabinet represents a select group of business and community leaders who will work closely with me to provide counsel, direction and feedback concerning how best to position the school in the business community and gain high regional and global prominence,” says Earley.
Earley notes that the Barones’ gift will provide “strategic resources” to support new initiatives like launching programs in finance, accounting and marketing at the Stamford campus, as well as ongoing initiatives like scholarships for study abroad.
In addition to contributing toward the School of Business, the Barones have long supported UConn’s Division of Athletics, including targeted support for the Mark R. Shenkman Training Center.
