UConn Ignite: Information for Donors

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes, your gift is eligible for a deduction from federal income taxes in accordance with IRS regulations. Those who make a gift of over $5 will receive a receipt verifying that the gift has been deposited.

Your gift will be administered by The University of Connecticut Foundation, Inc. The UConn Foundation is a tax-exempt non-profit corporation with a mission to solicit, receive and administer gifts and financial resources from private sources, including students, alumni, parents, and friends of the University, for the benefit of all campuses and programs of the University of Connecticut.

The Foundation operates exclusively to promote the educational, scientific, cultural, and recreational objectives of the University. As the primary fundraising vehicle to solicit and administer private gifts and grants which will enhance the University’s mission, the Foundation supports UConn’s pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, and public service.

What happens if a cause does not win the competition?

Your selected cause will still receive all funds donated through the Ignite challenge for use in accordance with the UConn Foundation description of the fund associated with your cause.

Following the competition, how do groups receive the funds to support their cause?

All donations will be deposited into your cause’s UConn Foundation fund and available for use in accordance with UConn Foundation policies. This will ensure that donations will be used as intended. No money will be distributed to individuals.
