36-hour giving day event receives nearly 2,500 gifts

During UConn’s first-ever online giving event, many supporters enthusiastically came together, which resulted in nearly 2,500 gifts, raising more than $260,000 for the University.

UConn Gives was particularly successful in generating excitement among individuals who had never before given to UConn. During the giving event, nearly one third of donors – approximately 600 – were inspired to make their first outright gift to UConn.

“We cannot express how grateful we are to all everyone who participated in our first giving event,” said Josh Newton, President and CEO, UConn Foundation. “This outpouring of support reflects the philanthropic spirit of our UConn family. Thank you for putting all paws in!”

Beginning at midnight on April 4 through noon on April 5, supporters made their gifts in support of scholarships, schools and colleges, and programs. The UConn Gives Leaderboard Challenge unlocked additional funds for the top three projects that received the greatest number of unique gifts. The projects and funds awarded were:

  • $5,000 for the Natural Resources Conservation Academy
  • $3,000 for the 100% UConn Law Challenge
  • $2,000 for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

“Those 36 hours exemplified the commitment and generosity of UConn Nation,” said UConn President Susan Herbst. “We are thrilled that so many of our students, employees, alumni, friends, and fans made UConn Gives such a tremendous success. We thank everyone for their support, as every gift is an investment in our students and the future of UConn.”
