Roger N. Buckley

Roger Buckley, Professor of History at UConn since 1984, passed away on July 25, 2020. He came to UConn to lead the Center for Academic Programs, also joined the History Department, and went on to become the founding Director of the Asian and Asian-American Studies Institute. While serving as Director of the Institute (1993-2008), he pioneered the creation of an anti-racist, transnational, and interdisciplinary curriculum, hired path-breaking faculty, and organized key conferences that reshaped the field of Asian American studies. He helped develop endowments to support the education, research, and programming needed to foster a rich intellectual culture dedicated to inter-racial justice movements led by the arts.
