Ignite is a student-run crowdfunding competition that started in 2013 on the Storrs campus. The program was designed for students to crowdfund money while sharing the mission of their group with the UConn community and their network. Participating teams compete in mini challenges during the competition to earn a portion of $20,000 in prize money. This exciting incentive helps teams maintain momentum while reaching their individual crowdfunding goals.

Crowdfunding is defined as, “the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the internet.” The most common examples of crowdfunding would be GoFundMe, Indigogo, and Kickstarter. Similarly, to these platforms, Ignite uses the power of storytelling with individual team giving pages where groups can highlight their current needs.

Over the years the Ignite program grew with the addition of Ignite Law in 2014 and the newly formed Ignite Club Sports. Each initiative focuses on the direct needs of those students involved. Find more information about participating teams on Instagram @uconnignite.
