Edward Sondik ’62 BS, ’71 MS (ENG)

Edward Sondik, 82, died on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 after a brief illness. Ed received his PhD in Electrical engineering from Stanford. After earning his degree, Ed served for almost 50 years in several important public health posts, including acting director of The National Cancer Institute at NIH and director of The National Center for Health Statistics at the CDC. Ed is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elinor; his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Joanna, his daughter and son-in-law Karen and Seth; four grandchildren, Max, Adam, Noah, and Jacob; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Dan Neiditz and Sheila Sondik and Paul Sarvasy. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 27 at Temple Beth Ami, 14330 Travilah Road, Rockville, MD.
