Typical game-day routines, the shift away from position players, and Geno’s mom’s tomato sauce: all topics were fair game during “An Evening with Champions.” UConn Women’s Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma and Men’s Basketball Coach Kevin Ollie joined 220 Husky fans at the Downtown Marriott in Hartford Tuesday night for a casual, wide-ranging conversation, moderated by WTIC’s “Voice of the Huskies” Joe D’Ambrosio.

Questions for the group were submitted by audience members. Here are just a few highlights:

Coach Auriemma, on who was his favorite person on the UConn Alumni trip down the Rhine River: The bartender. No, too many, too many. It was a great trip.

Coach Ollie on the 30-second shot clock: It’s not going to affect us. We’re going to see more press, zones, to run down the shot clock… It is going to take time and we’ve got to make the adjustment. Like everything else, we’ll make adjustments and we’ll be fine. The main thing is to move the ball.

Joe D’Ambrosio on what makes him crazy: When the season hasn’t started or it’s two games old, and people want to know how the team will be with recruits. Enjoy the team you have, and worry about the next team next November.

And the secret to Geno’s mom’s tomato sauce? It involves tomatoes from New Jersey… but you’ll have to join us for next year’s event to find out the rest!
