Gregory Mortensen ’71 (CLAS)

Gregory Philip Mortensen (age 75), died Wednesday, November 23, 2021 in Griffin, Georgia, of metastatic osteosarcoma. Born on February 6, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Martin and Jean Mortensen. He was preceded in death by his sisters Christine Mortensen Schmitz, Evelyn Curren, and Katie Mortensen. Greg was a lifelong learner, having studied at Michigan State, earned a Bachelors of Science in Insurance at University of Connecticut and a Masters of Science in Management at The American College. Greg served in the US Army Reserves as a Drill Sergeant, followed by a successful career in estate planning and insurance which spanned four decades. During his career, Greg traveled to all 50 states improving the lives of people along the way. Greg was an avid reader, enjoyed target shooting, and earlier years of riding his motorcycle cross-country. He enjoyed spending time with friends at Sun City Peachtree. Greg’s outgoing nature, quick sense of humor, and stellar vocabulary will be missed by many acquaintances, friends, and family. Forever in the hearts of his family.
