William A. Bill Sarrell ’74 (NEAG)

On Feb. 22, 2022, the world lost the most inspiring and resilient soul in William A. “Bill” Sarrell.

Bill came into the world June 1, 1949, in Freeport, Long Island, N.Y., the son of the late Ruth D. and William J. Sarrell. He and his family retreated to Connecticut in 1965 and in 1967, Bill was a graduate of New London High School. A very proud University of Connecticut graduate, he held a variety of jobs in the restaurant business and was a dealer at Foxwoods for many years. He was an avid golfer and was especially fond of both the New York Yankees and the UConn basketball teams. His favorite pastime was undoubtedly horse racing.

Bill is proudly survived by his biggest fan of all, his adoring sister, Linda S. Shafer and her husband Robert of Stonington. He also leaves behind his niece Lindsay; and nephew Ryan.

In 2014, Bill suffered from a debilitating stroke. He spent the remainder of his years at both Bayview Health Care Center in Waterford and Fairview in Groton. It was at those two places that he met some of the greatest caretakers his family could have asked for.

A “glass half full” kind of guy, Bill was always sure to spread his kindness and compassion, regardless of his situation. His comical personality and kindhearted character were admirable, to say the least. He proved to be a true inspiration and is sure to be sorely missed by all who knew him.

A private burial is being planned by the family at Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead, L.I., N.Y.

Arrangements are kindly being made by the Mystic Funeral Home.
