Tips:
- Use the #UConnGives or #UConnHealthGives hashtag in every post
- Always include a link to the main UConn Gives or UConn Health Gives page or your specific fund in every post
- Include pictures and/or videos in your posts as much as possible
- If posting to Instagram or Facebook stories, vertical videos are best!
- Personal accounts: Tag your friends both in your posts as well as the comments to encourage others to share, too!
- Participate in social media challenges
- Anyone who registers as a UConn Gives or UConn Health Gives Champion will receive a custom link so they can track how many donations have come in through their efforts! If you are a champion and receive a custom link, make sure to share that one instead of the general UConn Gives links.

How will #UConnGives be promoted on social media?
- The @UConnAlumni Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts will post all social media announcements and challenges prior to, during, and after the 36 hours using the hashtag #UConnGives
- There will be a Facebook event hosted by @UConnAlumni and various school/college Facebook pages (@UConnAlumni will send a co-host request to specific schools/colleges)
- Promotional video will be shared on @UConnAlumni channels during March
How should I use my school, unit, or group’s social media channels for UConn Gives?
Before UConn Gives
- Encourage people to “save the date” by sharing the UConn Gives and UConn Health Gives graphics, etc. that are provided in the toolkit
- Share posts from @UConnAlumni and other school/college/unit pages surrounding #UConnGives
- Share content that displays the impact philanthropy has on your school/college/unit
- Share content related to the fund your school/college/unit will be raising funds for during #UConnGives
- Share student/alumni/faculty/staff testimonials stating “Why I give”
- Make sure to use #UConnGives or #UConnHealth Gives on every social media post
During UConn Gives
- Encourage participation in matches and challenges throughout #UConnGives and #UConnHealthGives
- Post photos during the social media challenges to encourage followers to join (Tip: curate content & photos prior to #UConnGives so you can schedule posts during challenge times)
- Share student/alumni/faculty/staff testimonials stating “Why I gave”
- Real-time stewardship thanking donors who self-identify as #UConnGives donors on social media, or following the donor scroll and picking out random names to thank (Best platforms for this: Twitter & Instagram)

When should I start posting?
- A few weeks prior to #UConnGives. Start drumming up excitement during the months of February and March!
Proposed timeline:
- Three weeks out: Share Facebook event, invite friends to Facebook event, save the date post
- Two weeks out: Reshare Facebook event, share #UConnGives save the date graphics, begin sharing content
- One week out: Share “one week away” countdown post, reshare Facebook event
- Week of: Share countdown graphics, reshare Facebook event, share video
What channels should I post to?
- Any and all, though we will have graphics sized primarily for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
How often should I be posting? What type of content should I be sharing on each channel?
- As often as possible, using the hashtag #UConnGives or #UConnHealthGives
- Respond to people’s tweets that use #UConnGives or #UConnHealthGives
- Encourage people to participate in social media challenges
- Live stewardship (say thank you to those who donate in real-time)

- 2-3 times throughout the day on brand pages

Instagram - As frequently as you’d like (definitely create/prioritize Instagram stories for updates!) using the hashtag #UConnGives
