Thank you for your interest in the Alumni Trustee Election. The 2023 election is underway. This page will help you navigate the election process whether you are a prospective candidate, nominator, or UConn graduate who wants to make an informed decision.

What is an Alumni Trustee?

An alumni trustee is a graduate of the University of Connecticut who has been elected to sit on the 21-member Board of Trustees for the University. There are two alumni trustees who serve a 4-year term representing UConn alumni in greater University discussions and decisions. Alumni trustees are selected through an election in which all UConn graduates may vote.

What are the deadlines for the election?

  • The application deadline for nominees is March 1, 2023 at 12 p.m. EDT.
  • Final candidates will be announced on the “Meet the Candidates” page on June 15, 2023.
  • Ballots will be delivered to all UConn graduates by August 1, 2023.
  • Completed ballots are due in the Post Office Box by August 16, 2023 in order to be counted. Note: This is NOT a postmark date

UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT ALUMNI TRUSTEE ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities

  • For a four year term (from the first day of September succeeding his or her election) serve as an Alumni Trustee of the University of Connecticut’s Board of Trustees
  • Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees and meetings of committees of the Board of Trustees to which the Alumni Trustee is assigned
  • Be familiar with the bylaws, mission, legal and regulatory environment, strategic plans and performance measures of the University
  • Prepare for meetings by reviewing materials provided and remaining informed on matters considered
  • Actively participate in Board of Trustee matters by carefully considering resolutions and voting
  • Be professional, ethical and responsible
  • Advocate for the University and act as a representative of alumni
  • Maintain the confidentiality of executive session discussion and materials and other sensitive matters

Minimum Requirements

  • Be a graduate of the University.
  • No person who has served as an alumni trustee for the two full consecutive terms immediately prior to the term for which such election is to be held shall be nominated for any such election.

Qualifications
To be considered as a candidate for the Board of Trustees, the applicant will have demonstrated:

  • Dedication to furthering the mission of the University
  • Commitment to the University through a record of volunteer service and/or financial support
  • Leadership skills
  • Professional achievement and/or civic involvement
  • Previous board and/or fiduciary experience
  • Understanding of complex business, real estate and financial transactions
  • Willingness to attend regular board and committee meetings (both on and off campus)
  • In order to complement and strengthen the composition of the current board, additional criteria such as diversity and other special expertise may be considered.
