Meet the Candidates

Thank you for your interest in the 2025 Alumni Trustee Election. The following candidates have been nominated for the Alumni Trustee position. As a UConn graduate, you may vote for one of these nominees or for another eligible candidate of your choice.

An official ballot will be mailed to all University of Connecticut graduates with a valid mailing address on record in the alumni database. Please take a moment to read your ballot, sign it, and mail the ballot so it arrives no later than August 15, 2025. The ballot must be signed and received on or before August 15 to be counted. Any form of delivery other than mail will not be counted.

Robert Giglietti

Robert Giglietti ’92 (BUS)

As a passionate advocate for higher education, a long-time Connecticut resident and proud member of the UConn community, I am seeking election to the Board of Trustees to help the University continue to thrive academically, financially, culturally, and with students, faculty and alumni. I have decades of finance and transformation experience, a deep commitment to UConn and will bring diverse and innovative perspectives, balanced between financial, operational and student needs.

UConn Service:

  • Member of the Charles and Augustus Storrs Circle for donations to UConn including annual scholarships, including the Stacy & Rob Giglietti Scholarship fund, and UConn athletics
  • Financial and advisory support to Hillside Ventures – an early-stage venture fund providing students real-world experience in investing in start-ups, including review of business plans
  • Mentored Business School Students supporting in career counseling and introductions to business leaders
  • Guest lecturer for the Business School – focus on the Transformation of GE into 3 Industry Leading Public Companies and investment Management with a focus around private equity investing
  • Worked with GE to help support the university through financial support, recruiting and other alumni initiatives, including donations to establish the CASE center at UConn Stamford, recruiting hundreds of UConn students into the GE Financial Management program and working with GE UConn Alumni to support student programs

Community Service:

My non-profit board focus has been mainly on youth development through direct education, providing safe homes and leadership programs to help create a more equitable future

  • Junior Achievement of Southwest CT – received outstanding consultant award for engaging the highest number of volunteers to support the student programs
  • Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County – Worked with GE to fund and build over 30 homes throughout Bridgeport CT, providing a safe and healthy environment for families
  • BuildOn New York (www.buildon.org) – working on Bronx task force to promote continued advancement of youth through service and education to create a more equitable future in New York City and Connecticut.  Also supporting the mobilization of communities in low-income countries to build schools.

Robert Makuch ’72 (CLAS)

With my lifelong passion for excellence in higher education, I am eager to serve as a dedicated Alumni Trustee, advocating for alumni as they support and benefit from the growth of UConn’s exceptionalism. My participation on the CLAS Dean’s External Advisory Board, focusing on creating opportunities for personal growth and career enhancement for both students and alumni, along with my Husky pride, have prepared me well for this important role.

Diane Whitney

Diane Whitney ’85 (LAW)

My appreciation of UConn began with my law degree and grew when I was an adjunct Law School instructor and then as an undergraduate advisor at Storrs. My UConn degree was life-changing for me as it is for so many others. It would be an honor to be part of the leadership team that guides UConn into the future.

James Yanosy ’92 (BUS)

From an early age, I’ve bled blue. The only school I applied to, I’ll bring to the board my School of Business degree and extensive CFO experience guiding business leaders to achieve financial goals. We must reduce our alma mater’s over-reliance on funding from the state. Leveraging accelerating technology advancements will lower costs and prepare students for a transforming world. As your board representative, we can Empower UConn’s Future.

  • School of Business’ Financial Literacy Innovation Program – providing financial literacy
    education to inner city high school students. Instructed insurance chapter, led panel on
    transition experiences from high school to career, led industry panel of local diversity
    groups, hosted program’s end of the year celebration, hosted students at Yard Goats
    game, developed internship program for former participants.
  • Business Connections & Scholars House Learning Communities – Led discussions on
    leadership and management, served as Alumni in Residence, hosted insurance industry
    learning events, purchased and distributed the book, “Closing the Racial Wealth Gap” by
    Eugene Mitchell.
